Dems Caving on DADT - Surprise!
Here we go again. Democrats and Republicans play the good cop, bad cop game to perfection. The good cops are cowards afraid to question the accused and the bad cops beat a confession out of the suspect even if he has an alibi. Either way, you don't get the just outcome. As usual, we have Democrats cowering in fear while Republicans kick sand in their face and laugh. Even though something like 70% of Americans want DADT (Don't Ask, Don't Tell) repealed, the Democrats have found yet another way of turning a win into a loss. Even the soon-to-be-released Defense Department study has found that U.S. servicemembers do not mind serving alongside gay soldiers, much to the chagrin of John McCain (R-AZ). President Barack Obama has repeatedly said he wants to overturn the policy, which bans gays from serving openly in the armed forces, yet every chance he gets he does something to undermine overturning it. Senators Carl Levin (D-MI) and McCain, the top Democrat and Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, are in talks on stripping the proposed repeal and other controversial provisions from a broader defense bill, leaving the repeal with no legislative vehicle to carry it. I know there are people saying bring DADT up as a seperate vote, but that is not how it originated either. It got passed through the defense bill. And we know that all the cowards in DC are afraid to tackle this issue head-on and do the right thing so this is where the overturn will die. If Democrats can't use the brains they were born with and repeal a policy more than two thirds of the American people, including a majority of conservatives who want it gone, then they can't expect people to vote for them. It shows their inability to stand by their convictions. I am absolutely blown away that after the beatdown Democrats took last week, they think that going further right is the way to go. This is the shit they keep doing that is keeping the base home! Republicans actually captured 31 percent of gay voters this year, compared to 19 percent in 2008 largely due to the Log Cabin Republicans. GOP strategists seem perfectly capable of understanding that the vast majority of the American people want DADT repealed. They are certainly capable of understanding what 31 percent of the LGBT vote means. But Democrats think that they can keep stringing along the LGBT community with lip service. Things are changing within the GOP and Sarah Palin and her teabaggers aren't going to like it. Sadly, most other things that the Teapublicans stand for aren't palatable for liberal Americans either. We need an honest Progressive Party to rock the boat and make a difference that will actually help the majority, not for the fearful and wealthy.

The View From The Deck - Week Ending 5/2/10
I'm confused...a month or so ago, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Staff Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen were saying it is time to remove Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Both expressed their opinions eloquently with true passion and resolve. Now they're saying in regards to any legislation that would actually remove it, "I hope Congress will not do so, as it would send a very damaging message to our men and women in uniform that in essence their views, concerns, and perspectives do not matter on an issue with such a direct impact and consequence for them and their families." WTF!? Who got to them? Women serving on a submarine...no problem! Yahoo! says the Navy (boys will be boys and rape will not be a crime under water...don't you know). But, let gays actually be open about who they are, hell no! The little homophobes need to adjust because in their own paranoia, they think every gay person wants to look at their pee pee. This country is so f***ed up, I'm starting to lose any way to describe how f***ing ignorant we are as a group. I actually let some moron on Huffington Post have it the other day (and was fanned twice) who seems to think gay people can't control themselves and the gay community will demand open displays of affection. Who the hell believes that? Any ass hole who seriously thinks anyone in the military who has been trained in disipline of every nature would put anything at risk makes GWB look competent. All of our allies have already dealt with this issue and have had no problems with disipline or morale. Another difficulty the gay community faces is our own media. People like the idiot I responded to see the Pride Parades on tv once a year and think all gay men wear feathers and leather and all gay women have shaved heads and wear construction boots. The msm didn't cover the hearings in California over Prop. 8 where you would've actually seen gay couples...who look just like everyone else. The media loves making gays a freak show. Liberal media, my ass. It's 2010...grow up America!
In case you missed the snafu in Bristol Palin's sworn testimoney in the Knoxville, TN trial of the college student who hacked Sarah Palin's email account, here's the gist. Bristol said under sworn testimoney that she was distressed to see pictures of "her" baby that were in her mothers email account being circulated! The snafu? Sarah Palin's email account was hacked on December 15th 2008: Tripp Palin, son of Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston wasn't born until December 28th 2008! It appears that Bristol Palin, under oath inadvertently gave up the goods on Mommy Dearest while unknowingly admitting that she (Bristol) is actually the mother of Trig Palin. One more clue that the whole pregnant Sarah thing was a LIE! Abstinence only really seems to be having some setbacks in Alaska.
While I'm sure my past articles have already made my opinion pretty clear, let me make it crystal clear - corporate America sucks. We live in a world where job well done means, "if you pulled it off, we can do it cheaper and screw you deeper." I hate this newfangled world of "lean." Good people don't matter, we are an end to their means. The only thing these jerks look at is their bottom line...on their non-reality based spreadsheet. It doesn't help when candyass "managers" think that obeying and bowing to their superior lords' every whim, without question will solidify their own security. I doubt it. Maybe I'm wrong, but my personal opinion is that I'd have more respect for someone who stood up to me than just said, "yes master" at every turn. If there really was a God, these creeps would be paying for their destruction of the American Dream and their own self-interests. We are doomed.
Did I mention the Red Sox still suck?

Gay Rights – An Inconvenient Opinion
While I wish President Obama would just repeal DADT and DOMA already instead of continuously talking about it, sometimes the LGBT community is their own worst enemy. Let’s look into a reason why I feel being gay is not generally accepted. I’m going to say something that will upset many by taking Barney Frank’s point of the futileness of gay pride marches a step further. I think the gay marches actually make matters worse in many cases. How? Many people are “uncomfortable” by a hairy man wearing a pink feathered hat with a black leather vest and tight pants walking down a street with a bunch of similarly dressed people. Many see this infrequent event on television thinking this is normal gay behavior and it proves to them that gays are freaks not to be trusted. I’m not saying that being out and proud is wrong, quite the contrary, but would you dress like that to go to work, to a ballgame, to pick your kid up from school? To get true equality, you don’t have to give up your identity, but you must retain dignity for yourself and your community. We have a handful of out and proud celebrities like Chad Allen, Ellen DeGeneres, Melissa Etheridge, Neil Patrick Harris and Rachel Maddow who are all well liked and respected for the job they do because it’s clear that their sexual orientation is just part of them, it doesn’t define them. Maybe I’m mistaken about over exaggerated flamboyancy. Maybe it is a natural aspect of certain people and I don’t “get it” because I’m quite happy with a polo shirt, a pair of jeans and sneakers. To me, it feels disingenuous and a selfish cry for attention instead of what’s best for the gay community. We still live in a very homophobic world where people fear what they don’t understand. Sadly, the people we need to convince that being gay is a natural part of many Americans lives also believe that man walked with dinosaurs. These same people need to feel secure that gays are not a threat to their way of life or their children. Do I think it’s a fair battle? Absolutely not. However, losing a few small battles with a clear objective and strategy on winning the war will reap rewards for generations to come. That’s change to believe in.
